assigned reading or consumption method of choice: the crystal singer by anne mccafferty.

this is an unhinged recommendation but i feel like this book was sooo fascinating. deeply cringe but also was going for it (i’m a full believer in swinging for the fences) . like… kinda sad, too? who was anne mccaffrey and was she basing the killashandra character on herself?!?!? because… wild vibe gal. opera singer burnout who becomes a crystal miner… called singers because they have to use their voices or some shit to mine the shit. she’s like soooo good at things. snobby, hot and she knows it. miners are all similarly neurotic talented folks who somehow got caught up in this crystal trade. fast forward through a lot of shit and the book turns into a galactic transmit cult religion where the signals are amplified through the crystal via crystal singer??? oh and wild food and intimacy binges with her superior.
